SPECTRALIS® HRA+OCT imaging platform combines scanning laser fundus imaging techniques, including simultaneous OCT imaging with dye-based Fluorescein Angiography (FA). As an expandable platform, it can always be upgraded with additional modules such as the Glaucoma Module Premium Edition, OCT2 Module, Widefield Imaging, Ultra-Widefield Angiography Modules, and OCT Angiography Module. SPECTRALIS HRA+OCT is delivered with a panoramic camera head and an external touch panel control for easy adjustments and simple image acquisition.
Glaucoma Module Premium Edition
The SPECTRALIS® Glaucoma Module Premium Edition offers a unique combination of scanning patterns to assess the optic nerve head, retinal nerve fiber layer, and macular ganglion cell layer, using its dedicated Anatomic Positioning System (APS). Thanks to APS technology, a unique anatomical map of each eye is created based on the fovea center and Bruch’s membrane opening. This allows for highly precise visualization, analysis, and monitoring of key anatomical structures critical to glaucoma diagnosis. The Glaucoma Module Premium Edition compares the patient’s eye to a reference database of normal eyes, enabling the detection of even the smallest deviations. The precision of the SPECTRALIS AutoRescan function allows for reliable identification and monitoring of structural changes at every patient visit.
Nsite Analytics Module
A Window to the Brain – Gain a New Perspective on Neurodegeneration: The Nsite Analytics Module provides a window to the brain by enabling the measurement of neuronal and axonal projections within the retina, which are part of the central nervous system (CNS). This makes it possible to monitor retinal changes in patients with optic neuropathies and neurodegenerative conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s disease. The Nsite Analytics Module allows for a comprehensive analysis of the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL)—a unique tissue of the CNS containing unmyelinated axons and glia.
Nsite applies a color-coded classification within a reference database to indicate axonal loss and edematous changes in the RNFL. In addition, the module provides analysis of macular retinal thickness and posterior pole asymmetries. Measurements of macular ganglion cell layer thickness and corresponding maps help determine whether observed macular changes are directly related to retinal ganglion cells. Monitoring subtle changes supports increased physician confidence in making more informed clinical decisions.
The SPECTRALIS® Nsite Analytics Module minimizes motion artifacts and automatically performs scans in the same location during follow-up, allowing for the tracking of small changes in retinal ganglion cells and axons.
MultiColor Module
Much More Than a Color Fundus Photo! The unique multicolor fundus imaging obtained simultaneously with three different laser wavelengths from various ocular tissue layers provides a composite color image that reveals topographic changes not visible with conventional color fundus photography. The different penetration depths of each wavelength deliver structural information from each tissue layer, aiding in the identification of pathology.
You can extract diagnostic information from either monochromatic images or the multicolor composite image and integrate them into a multimodal imaging workflow to maximize diagnostic potential. When combined with OCT images, the MultiColor Module supports qualitative analysis and helps identify the specific retinal layers affected by pathology. MultiColor provides valuable additional data to Fluorescein Angiography, and when combined with OCT or OCTA, it can help determine whether contrast-enhanced fundus angiography is necessary. MultiColor can be used alongside BluePeak fundus autofluorescence imaging and is an excellent tool for measuring the extent of geographic atrophy. It allows for the quick and easy acquisition of four fundus images and simultaneous OCT in a single capture, optimizing your workflow.
The confocal microscopy technology of SPECTRALIS® further enhances imaging resolution, delivering impressive results especially useful in patients with media opacities or nystagmus. Additionally, confocal optics enable the acquisition of high-resolution images without the need for pupil dilation.
BulePeak Module
The BluePeak autofluorescence module is a non-invasive fundus imaging modality that reveals retinal metabolic stress by using lipofuscin as an indicator. BluePeak images provide diagnostic insights into retinal conditions such as AMD and inherited diseases and can uncover RPE and photoreceptor cell dysfunctions. By combining the segmentation of retinal layers in OCT images with the metabolic mapping of BluePeak autofluorescence, morphological changes associated with functional alterations become more clearly visible.
With RegionFinder software, the size of pathological areas identified in BluePeak images can be quantified and tracked over time.
Anterior Segment Module
High-Resolution Anterior Segment Imaging: The SPECTRALIS® Anterior Segment Module provides high-resolution images that display the layers of the cornea in detail and support the evaluation of corneal thickness. The module also offers angle-to-angle imaging for efficient assessment of the anterior chamber angle and delivers detailed visualization of scleral structures.
OCT2 Module
Next-Generation OCT Module: The SPECTRALIS® OCT2 Module is the next-generation OCT technology for the SPECTRALIS platform, offering enhanced image quality from the vitreous to the choroid. With a scanning speed of 85 kHz, it shortens examination times and increases patient comfort. The OCT2 Module provides an ideal foundation for advanced imaging techniques such as OCT angiography and enhanced glaucoma diagnostics. As it can be added to any existing upgrade-compatible SPECTRALIS system, the OCT2 Module also represents a solid investment for the future.
OCT Angiography Module
Non-Invasive Vascular Imaging: The SPECTRALIS® OCT Angiography Module delivers high-quality OCTA images with a resolution of 5.7 μm/pixel. When combined with the precision of TruTrack Active Eye Tracking, the OCTA Module enables detailed visualization of fine capillary networks. Its axial resolution of 3.9 μm/pixel allows segmentation of four histologically validated retinal vascular plexuses. It enables separate visualization of specific layers within the superficial and deep vascular plexuses.
The Projection Artifact Removal (PAR) tool uses information from the superficial vascular plexus to eliminate artifacts from OCTA images, allowing for more accurate visualization of vascular structures and pathology.
Scanning Laser Angiography
High-Resolution Photos and Videos: SPECTRALIS® scanning laser angiography can be performed using either fluorescein or ICG dye. Both modes produce detailed, high-resolution images and video sequences that show vascular filling, flow, and leakage. For workflow efficiency and diagnostic precision, FA and ICGA can be captured simultaneously and in combination with OCT imaging. The optional Ultra-Widefield Angiography Module provides scanning laser angiography images from the macula to the periphery, enabling more comprehensive retinal examinations.
Widefield Imaging Module
Wide-Angle (55-Degree) Fundus Imaging and OCT: The SPECTRALIS® Widefield Imaging Module provides a 55-degree field of view for all fundus imaging modalities, including MultiColor, BluePeak, infrared imaging, angiography, and OCT. By capturing the macula, optic nerve head, and areas beyond the vascular arcades in a single image, the Widefield Imaging Module enables more comprehensive diagnostics. The high-resolution, high-contrast images obtained with this module offer diagnostic capabilities that go beyond traditional fundus photography.
Ultra-Widefield Imaging Module
Ultra-Widefield Imaging from Macula to Periphery: The SPECTRALIS® Ultra-Widefield Imaging Module captures an exceptionally wide field of view in a single shot. It provides uniform illumination and high contrast in fundus images, making it easy to visualize even the peripheral regions. The module is compatible with SPECTRALIS scanning laser angiography, including both fluorescein and ICG angiography, which can be acquired either separately or simultaneously.
High Magnification Module
High-Resolution Imaging of Retinal Microstructures! The SPECTRALIS® HMM consists of an innovative magnifying lens and specialized software. By reducing intraocular light scatter, it elegantly enhances the ability of confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (cSLO) to visualize ocular microstructures—even in eyes with cataracts. The contrast and clarity of the images obtained through confocal scanning reveal critical diagnostic details that are often not visible with standard ophthalmoscopy or fundus photography.
Once the area of interest is identified using a lens with a wider field of view, the user can capture images at approximately an 8° angle, enabling highly magnified, detailed examination. This capability may offer a unique perspective on the progression of specific retinal diseases.
